Our Father Abraham was seeking a land of promise. And He believed God and it was reckoned to him as righteousness. Moses looked upon the land but could not enter. Joshua began the conquest and David subdued God’s enemies.
And yet, none of them could enter into His rest without us. They for the eternal rest that could only arrive in the Advent of the Son. Jesus has now laid claim to the entire earth and, indeed, all creation as His very own. His Church advances in the land and calls all men everywhere to submit to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
Our God has made promises to us of forgiveness, peace and rest and those promises are all realized in this place, in His Church, at this Table in this land of promise. Praise be to God.
