Restored Fortunes

Psalm 53: 6 Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!

When God restores the fortunes of his people,

let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.

What does it mean to have your fortunes restored by God? It means that His grace and favor rests upon you. He is the omniscient and omnipotent one. He knows your failings and successes. His grace abounds and when we seek His favor, His blessings abound to us as well.
This does not keep us from troubles or from suffering. Part of God’s plan for us is to enter into the sufferings of Jesus Christ. We all experience suffering. But in the midst of life and its trials, we also experience the peace of God which surpasses the circumstances and is unknown by the world.
Furthermore, God looks down upon the Earth and He keeps track of every deed, every little cup of water offered in His name, every slight and offense against His children. And though we do not see every action made right in the justice of God, it is, or will be. And at times, we get to see God restore our fortunes by blessing us and punishing the wicked. We do not rejoice over the wicked but rather rejoice that God’s mercy is extended to us whom He has chosen in His Son.
This bread and wine is the symbol of God’s favor, the restoration of your fortunes as a child of God at the table of Your Father in Heaven. Rejoice and be thankful.
