Honor to Honor
Many people would like to be honored. It feels good when others recognize you for something you did. Or, maybe they do something to simply honor who you are. They desire to do good by you, so they call you out, compliment you in public, attempting to honor you and lift up your good name.
For honorable people, this is fairly easy to do. You do not mind giving honor. But for those who desperately desire honor, rather than giving of honor, it is a bit more difficult. Giving honor to others may mean subtracting honor from yourself. It doesn’t work that way, actually, but the selfish mind thinks in these terms.
Think to give honor. Speak well of others. Reward good behavior. Build up the good name of other men, women and children. Do not think that when others receive honor, you have less honor. In fact, if you get good at giving honor, you will become an honorable person and honors will come your way.
And for all of this, be content to seek the honor of the Lord, whether men see the honor that is due you, or not. It is enough to be honorable in the site of God.
