A Clear Conscience

David says that his enemies attack him through no fault of his sin. How can he say that with confidence? How can he know that God was not chastising him for his sins? Because he was innocent of the accusations.

Later in David’s life, he sins and pays consequences but at this time he was being attacked as a conspirator and it simply was not true. He was innocent of the charges and he called upon God with confidence, asking God to take note and judge righteously.

How can you call upon God with confidence? How can you ask Him to deliver you and to judge righteously those who oppose and attack you? First of all, don’t fall into sins with bad people or against the righteous. Walk uprightly. Be innocent of accusations.

You can also seek God’s favor by confessing sins. Be honest with yourself and with God. If you are at fault for your troubles, admit it, confess your sins, repent and ask God to create in you a clean heart, through His wonderful grace of forgiveness.

Then, when you are under duress, you can be confident that God is on your side and will deliver you from calamity.

Prayer of Confession

Our Father, we acknowledge our sins and faults before You. Have mercy on us according to Your lovingkindness. According to Your tender mercies, blot out our transgressions. Cleanse us through the blood of Christ, that we may walk in newness of life, seeking to obey You in thought, word, and deed, through the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
